Well, there’s Dawn of War 4 at least.

Yeah, you can definitely tell with the footage. The battles look adequate as a compromise. The same people who were hyping themselves up for this are now crying that it doesn’t “look” like TW but I have to ask what do they expect? Obviously you can’t take a formula built for bronze age through early modern battles at the latest and just slap it onto a science fantasy setting where units are grouped into loose “squads” and everyone and their granny has a shoota-type weapon.
I’m actually most interested by the campaign mechanics since it looks like that’s where most of the innovation will happen, particularly with how star sectors and systems work as opposed to the galaxy being one big map (so that ending the turn won’t be followed by a 20 minute break even at the early game).

HL2 fans straight up trying to hex Geoff Keighley is certainly something I didn’t expect.

God, I miss the cinematics. The failure ones were something special.

Funny thing is that in my Aztec game, Castile didn’t even bother to show up. Aside from England and Portugal colonizing North and South America at a comfortable distance from Mexico, there was the Two Sicilies, the Papal States and god damn Bulgaria, and none of them really took an aggressive stance against me. Made the second half of the game’s timeline a cakewalk, albeit with me still grasping how the economy works.

Yeah, as it stands, NW nations are very rough around the edges and obviously have been playtested last.

You mean P5… or have I been in a coma?

The KKKracKKKers are not human

I think the depiction of the Klan as comic relief kinda accentuates how softened it is. While the Klan was more or less dead by 1899 and wouldn’t get its revival for 16 years, there were still plenty of white supremacist paramilitaries running around. One of them even overthrew a city’s government just a year prior.

It’s legit mind-boggling that apparently the
brains at Treyarch intended for the Soviets to look bad in that campaign. Especially when you compare it to say, Company of Heroes 2.

Yes, I’m the Neo-Cheka governor placed in charge of the Turtle Island Cracker Containment Zone, how could you tell?

There are seven cultures but there aren’t separate South American/Andean, Eastern European or South East Asian types, so it’s going to be weird seeing the armies of the Sapa Inka dress up as Mexica jaguar warriors, Muscovite streltsy looking like Westerners two centuries ahead of Peter’s reforms and Dai Viet troops wearing Indian or Chinese get-ups (to say nothing of Africans like Malians, Ethiopians and Zimbabweans being stuffed into one big blob like base game EU4).
That said, I absolutely love the system as shown and want to see how much it can grow, especially since EU4 started so bare-bones. Entire formations of units, all varied and depending on level of professionalization, as opposed to just four different dudes pertaining to tech level is certainly an upgrade.
Graphical representation is a minor thing in a map game of course but it goes a long way to add flavor when you stare at the map for hours on end.

Of what I gather from reviewers and people on discord:
I look forward to see how this game develops but yeah, not ready to drop 60 on it now.
On a complete side note, I’m curious if they released the complete unit renders for different cultures and periods.

Alternatively, you can play Ante Chamber once before and storm Dracula’s Castle as Jimbo

The ROK would actually make more sense as a leader in the PTDO war effort, given that the ROKA is a well-oiled machine by comparison. Sure, Japan has a moat defending it called the Korean Strait but in that case, Australia and Indonesia would be contenders. But overall I agree.

Yeah more or less my thoughts. To a lesser degree, there’s also America’s case, when it becomes the UAPCR.
Even though it is partly deindustrialized and wartorn initially, it can become an powerhouse isolated from any serious world threats and an invaluable ally. And there’s nothing between it and China or the USSR, not even something BnR related?

On one hand, it’s a bitter pill, especially when Taiwan has no plausible defense with the US out of the picture (and the mod somehow makes the JSDF way more competent than they actually are). On the other it’s oh-so satisfying to take Taiwan as you’re also taking Korea and SEA all at once, showing how far the PLA has come.
I’m maybe in the minority here but I liked naval battles in (mid-game) FOTS on account of having much more to work with than past games. Warhammer 40K does offer much more flexibility in how to implement them so you aren’t just a passive observer hoping your floating bricks don’t spontaneously combust.
