    This fucking guy.

I don’t really think kojima is at risk of making “something that’s for everyone”, Death stranding was super self-indulgent

It was and the beach scene at the end with the intermittent walking and the plot exposition is the worst thing kojima has ever made, can’t wait to see what he does for 2

This game being “death stranding but with more stuff” is like the lamest thing he could have done. The original already had too much stuff, if anything they should have reduced it more instead of bombarding people with unlockables and “number go up” at every moment. Cookie-clicker ass game

It won’t happen because whatever movie he made would suck. He’s currently carried by the much lower standards for writing in video games. He’s just a Japanese David Cage with less shitty views.

You’re not wrong perhaps fundamentally as yes MGS itself got some very messy writing, retcons and shit, but I also feel like “movie standards” seems like a strawmen at this point after about 15 years of capeshit, disney shit, sequels and reboots most of which are still extremely profitable and somewhat successful have just lowered those standards significantly.

People like Nolan have achieved legendary success with barely above average quality overall so I’d put him a possibly like a Nolan tier below at the start, definitely above with experience. If the average person can say the love Nolan shit then Kojima would be more than fine. Standards are just as much about what the audience is willing to call good or bad.

Sure I’d agree the best movies in history are on a completely different level of what he could possibly achieve, this is undeniable but you don’t need to reach that level.

Okay but even the worst capeshit and disney garbage is at least capable of limiting itself to 2 hours. I’m not sure Kojima could limit himself to anything less than a miniseries unless physically threatened. But with regards to quality, I just think it’s important we remember the level at which Kojima operates when discussing his possible forray into other media.

I think I agree . If Zach Snyder is allowed to make movies …whats the harm at letting Kojima make some movies ? Like I dont think Kojima is like a god tier story teller but im sure he could do better than Zach Snyders Rebel Moon.

Playtesters legitimately had no idea what they were talking about then because it was great. The only thing I really have to say about it is that repetition was slightly annoying and it obviously had significantly less polish than Metal Gear does. I was frequently annoyed by the clunky movement in the combat missions especially the VR time trials. Hopefully improving on clunkyness is a focus of the second.

Do not listen to focus groups or “playtesters” when producing art. You get grey goo from them. They do not know or understand creating something that does not exist and their takes on something they’re entirely unfamiliar with will be all over the place.

Maybe, the clunk in combat was the biggest issue the whole game had. That clunk could have been hidden. With that said they’re clearly going for a Metal Gear style gameplay thing. Problem is that the last game Kojima made the movement was polished to perfection even if the game itself was unfinished.

I have never played a metal gear game. I really enjoyed the first few hours of death stranding, just hiking around and using ladders but stopped playing when it threw a big old video game boss fight with a giant oil sharktopus thing at me

Death Stranding is a game that grows on you real slowly. If the second is anything like the first, then that’s the difference right there.

The likely explanation is that the playtesters are now used to Death Stranding mechanics since Death Stranding already exists. I remember there being a lot of people who thought Demons Souls and Dark Souls 1 were bad because they weren’t used to the mechanics, and now Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies to almost universal acclaim.

Me and my friend taking 5-6 hours playing dark souls 1 and never even making it to the second bonfire, thinking the game takes place entirely within that first castle area, lmaoooo
