  • dog-screm Leader of portuguese far-right party, Andre Ventura, gets epicly owned…by a glass of water. It was on camera and it’s kinda funny, he felt bad during a speech after drinking water for some reason and buckled over like a bitch so the whole entourage came in to protect him from…something

Comparisions to bolsonaro came instantly but I’m sad to report that he’s probably fine.

EDIT: It was gastroesophageal reflux episode with a hypertensive peak, he’s fine. Note that mainstream news outlets, who sometimes put the blame on russia or tik tok for the raise of the far right, spent a lot of time on this nothing issue and brought on people from the party to comment on it. Pretty sure that not even the PM last month when he was hospitalized for a few hours, nor the communist party leader in 2022 who had to get heart surgery back then, got this amount of media attention.

  • biggus-piggus At a portuguese right-wing liberal party congress yesterday a climate activist threw green paint on the party leader Rui Rocha during his speech, something similar happened with the PM last year too.

I’m sad to report that unfortunately he handled it pretty well, incredibly so in fact, almost assuring that this will not have any negative effect on the party.

First one of the kids came up with a sign (“So our species doesn’t go extinct end fossil fuels 2030”) and Rocha immediatly stopped speaking, then another kid came up and Rocha moved towards him and held out his hand, the kid took it, they shook hands, they talked for a few seconds, which gives him the cover of having engaged with the kid’s concerns, and then the kid pulled out some green dust and busted on him. He has since said that he’ll auction the suit.

If I were a more conspiriatorial guy I could say it was staged but having looked at this group for a while, and also heard from other leftists who know them personally or are involved with them what their intentions with these actions are, it’s never staged, these kids just theorize that they just have to get more and more attention on the issue of climate change, so they don’t factor in what obvious direct political effects these actions will have, including the increase in support to the people they attack because they’ve made themselves universally reviled, because they’re not in the politics business (that is in the pursuit of power by one mean or another) they’re in the awareness-raising business

This party is very economically right-wing and anti-state intervention though so the disdain for them is warranted.
