Being illiterate in our day and age doesn’t mean not being able to read and write, it’s lacking the capacity to learn, unlearn and learn again.

I don’t see it as often any more (maybe I’ve just grown out of those social circles) but so many people used to complain about having to interpret poems at school.
yeah, but that can mean multiple things.
Either people don’t want to interpret the poems, for whichever reason,
or they aren’t actually taught interpretation and the teachers just expect the students to interpret the subject in a “correct way”, then when the student thinks for themselves they are punished.
