Lib Andor fans would hold a “NO DEATH STARS” protest where they dress up as the Space French and hold hands and sing songs. Never mind what happens next in the show.
I don’t get how they can still think that they can change the hearts of fascists by shaming them.
When will they understand that fascists do. not. care. It doesn’t matter how wrong you tell them they are, they only see winners and losers. To fascists, any peaceful protest is just taken as losers whining that they lost.
I drive past ‘honk if trump is bad’ “protests” on the sidewalk every weekend (its all old ppl and theres 0 cop presence so you know theres no threat to power) and im like cmon guys have some actual demands or at least block traffic

Liberals genuinely believe that ideas are the primary arena of struggle. The antidote to fascism is simply awareness.
I admit, the show got me to stick around a couple extra seasons when one of the cast bombs a room full of fascists and the main character reacts by joining the same organization to do more cool shit like that. It doesn’t get any better than that, though.
wait does it turn into a full blown guerilla conflict in the show? i always thought it was just a lib coded non-violent resistance until the U.S. remnant state collapsed (maybe i am thinking of the plot to the original first book)
It’s not that good. There’s armed resistance, but it’s almost always done by background characters. As the main character leans towards violence (primarily for revenge and personal goals), most of the supporting cast get real lecturey and moralistic. I don’t know how it ends, but it kept looking like maybe the setup to some non-violence redemption arc. I dunno.
In the book at least, the authorities stopped announcing the crimes of the condemned because it inspires copycats.
Not beating the “Handmaid’s Tale is about what if what has historically been done to black and indigenous women was done to white women instead?” allegations.

Everything’s so performative with liberals. There’s no introspection regarding what their “protest” seeks to achieve; do they really expect fascists to somehow step down after performing the role of the victim?

Dang all that stuff seems pretty bad. Hopefully someone will see these signs and know what to do about it.
But actually, though. All the white people doing the protests are used to economic precarity and the power of the panopticon but are not so insecure as to have nothing to lose, and so this almost feels like a call aimed at the more marginalized and desperate to take concrete action.
