Yeah do not use discord for organizing.
Don’t use it for anything, they permanently save all chats from what I hear.
Great. I use it for hobby stuff.
Not saying I’m pure of discord either to be clear
It’s what my local DSA uses

🤦♂️
me: hey let’s explore self hosting a matrix server? we could have private comms within the org
tech person: no.
that was really disappointing. I don’t think structuring your org around a group chat is a good idea. use more emails IMO.
Ours switched over to Slack, which is quite possibly even worse
It’s what all the other tankies I know use… crap.
It’s kinda rich that the current GOP — which owes everything it has spawned in the past 10 years to the darkest corners of Internet forums and chatrooms — is now warning folks that the internet is a cancer. Like, no shit! It gave us the current state of our government .
Maybe they should scream less about what got them here and spend more time releasing the goddamn Epstein files.
I’m shocked that we can AI scan for people sending a picture of a T-shirt in a private discord chat but they still couldnt catch the guy (with multiple videos from multiple angles) and his dad still had to turn him in.
i’m starting to think the guy they “caught” isn’t the shooter
I could see it go either way really
Wtf bro I was just trying to buy a Halloween costume now my ass got fuckin doxed
Land of The Free 🦅

broke: not using discord for privacy
woke: not using discord because it’s intended for ga*mers

They probably have been for a while
delete all your data for so long
Quickest way is either web with Tampermonkey running scripts or the hotkeys BetterDiscord/Vencord plugins provide.
Edit: This is against Discord TOS if that is a concern, I haven’t seen it a situation where I think it has been enforced but use your own discretion.

its against tos lol. adblocking is also against YouTube TOS.
I agree with the other points but they are insanely invasive in general. Wanting them to do it of their own volition without being strong-armed is the equivalent of a wish, so I think work with what we have. What we have is not good, but it is also better than not deleting things you want to, or having to manually do the several clicks per delete and the instead.
Though I should’ve put a disclaimer its against TOS and do it only with that understanding and risks that may entail.

not being able to do it in servers im not in is a bigger deal, and if you delete your account or get banned from discord the messages stay forever and you cant delete them at all. why are you defending them
??? Defending them?
I’m saying they’re shit and you should expect shit to smell like shit and taste like shit.
It is not me defending them but saying it is a pointless thing to discuss around theoretical what-ifs without some ability to change it. It would be nice if all messengers were EE2E, any data they did have on you they would delete on request, they gave their employees a fair wage (or wages were abolished because we are in a post-money society) with good benefits, didn’t further imperialism, and other wonderful things. Sadly, we live in hell, Discord is a massively intrusive messaging platform that doesn’t even pretend to encrypt their text messages with the encryption key on the servers like the “kind” porkies do, and—as the article above shows—it is part of the imperial intelligence apparatus.
If you have a method or idea to make them implement this, I think that is a worthwhile thing to discuss. But I don’t and thus advocate for the tools that are there that I am aware of. Yes, it violates TOS. But I have yet to see a case of them properly enforce that particular violation, and the few times I’ve seen someone claim theirs was an example they had done something else that was a much more noticeable and problematic violation that was more likely the cause of the punishment. That could be a blind spot in my awareness. So again, if are concerned about TOS violations leading to lost accounts or other personal struggles from discord enforcing it (and it is a valid concern) I think it was a fair criticism that you levied for not mentioning it assuming that’s what you meant by bothering to mention it violates TOS. I’ll edit the post above to include it. But, since I think Discord is a piece of shit, I have no moral, ethical, spiritual, or other -al qualms with violating whatever terms, conditions, contracts, or stipulations they apply and only have concerns with the issues they may cause you for violating them if they decide to some day actually try to enforce those rules.
Yes, you can’t delete from servers you’re not in. Yes, you can’t do it if your account is deleted or banned. Hence, me saying the current tools are not good. but as far as I know I presently, we don’t have the tools to force them to let us do those things. And I would like to be abundantly clear we would have to force Discord because it’s a piece of shit, and against its fundamental nature. If you have a method to circumvent it I would also be open to that, regardless of how how Discord would feel about it.
But I was not defending them. They’re a corporation, they speak in money and power and will not give concessions via any other means.

I mean I live in Amerikkka so GDPR didn’t cross my mind and I don’t know it’s intricacies enough for how that works. If you’re in a region it applies, maybe you can leverage a legal complaint of some kind? I know the few privacy laws we do have have a complaint system and I feel it’s fair to assume similar across the pond.
