It's off to a bad start.English1·22 days agoThey’ll get a partnership with Ukraine who are much farther ahead, and will give them whatever they need. I think that Ukraine still needs Chinese PMCs, but I think that a supply chain for those isn’t going to be a blocker.

jaxxed@lemmy.mlto World News@lemmygrad.ml•For the first time, Xi is missing a China-backed BRICS summit. Why?2·29 days agoNot really. I watch some utubers Chinese expats who’ve been throwing the rumour around, So I was trying to call corroborate.
Now I think that skipping the BRICS summit was likely a silly faced saving ploy because Modi was already in a state visit, or is a Chinese move to distance themselves from BRICS (the Chinese might not need it)
I am an amateur on the topic though.

Not all contexts are relevant - sometimes a win is a win, without needing to find a loser to compare with. Be self-confident enough individually, that you don’t need to conpare.
jaxxed@lemmy.mlto sino@hexbear.net•To combat desertification, China has encircled Taklimakan Desert with a sand-blocking green beltEnglish21·2 months agoI don’t see this as a geopolitical project. I see it as a domesticated effort, with perhaps some cross-border cooperation.
Let the Americans have their own issues; occupy yourself with your own.

One thing I didn’t understand was about the IMF buying up a of the assets? I thought that the IMF just loaned money with liberalization agreements? Like, well give you money as long as you open up your markets, and privatize your public services.
Also, (still reading) what is the incentive for foreign capital to invest in regional governments? Is it like a bond thing? What would give confidence to an investor to buy local government debt?
