Number my sorrows,
will you ?
And measure them.
One comes and
the next one
rivals it.

  • There is no honor in being the child of the wealthy.

If that child does something cool everyone says it is because their parents are rich.

If that child does something less than cool or mediocre everyone says they could have done so much more if they were the rich child.

And if that child does something bad everyone says look how much more horrible they are they came from privilege.

There is no honor for the children of the rich. And if their family doesn’t like that child … if you have a bad relationship with your parents imagine if they could use money freely to fuck with your life … it sounds unpleasant from here.

  • I think that the “good” ethically that they are speaking to is the idea that beyond contemporary American fascist/imperialist nationalism a person willing to sacrifice a portion of their lives to serve the republic is what is called a “good”.

When Athenians fought the Spartans in the Peloponnesian War neither side had a particular righteous stance but standing up for their city was considered a good.

Now we have to face the fact that our leaders no longer even pretend to do things for the good. And boots are arguing for a “good” beyond the scope of that.

And honestly you should let them have that sense of participating in the good for the realm of glory. I understand that struggle because I feel very disjointed about Vietnam vets. I struggle with that part of US history and those that participated in it a bunch.

So I get it. But I have tried to make space for these people that tried to do that right thing that history told them was the right thing. Sometimes you have to let the wookie win.
