Yes and no, Europe conceded throughout the 20th century to USian dominance. They aren’t different, really, but they also lost to the US in terms of global hegemony. My point isn’t that Europeans aren’t bloodthirsty Imperialists, just that European liberals like to think of themselves as “enlightened” despite also being guilty.
Fully justified rant.
As a USian, my perspective on EU nationalists is that they think the EU has the same Imperialist chops they used to, rather than being fully subservient to the US. The EU doesn’t have nearly the productive capacity of China, nor the massive financial and millitary Capital of the US Empire, so they piggyback off the US and think themselves more “enlightened” for not doing as much to keep the Empire they profit off of going.
They enjoy the spoils of Imperialism, and participate in it, but shift all of the blame on the US and act like they are innocent. The US is the Imperialist hegemon, correct, but the EU picked its role as vassal states of the Empire and acts like an alternative.
The good news is that as the US Empire continues to fall, so too will the EU, as its thoroughly dependent on the US. That stands to provide a genuine chance at change, the nationalism we see now is a desparate cling to Imperial “glory” as their role fades and China wins simply by focusing on real production.

It’s anecdotal, of course, but the wave of Europeans coming from Reddit from that one drama, combined with Trump’s tariff nonsense, has resulted in many holier-than-thou European Nationalists on Lemmy. Like, many defending Imperialism and Colonialism, and more Zionists than ever, just because the US is fumbling its hegemony right now. The “Buy European” comms in particular tend to have well-meaning people protesting the US combined with Euro-Nationalists, using it as recruiting ground for European Exceptionalism as parties like the AfD gain massive ground.

It’s unsurprising that Zionists will jump on weak “threats” in order to take a “legalistic” genocidal stance. It’s not that it is easy for them to not be Zionists and they failed, they used it as an opportunity to push for Zionism.

Yep! It’s a nice excuse for social gatherings, and I get to flex some creative and improv muscles I wouldn’t normally be able to. Plus it helps provide worldbuilding and game design outlets for me to toss around in my head and test. Been having a lot of fun!
