Representative Mikie Sherrill won the Democratic nomination for New Jersey governor Tuesday, defeating five rivals thanks to heavy fundraising and political support from the bulk of the party establishment. She will face Republican Jack Ciattarelli, a former state legislator who narrowly lost a previous gubernatorial race in 2021.

Sherrill’s victory means that in the two main statewide elections of 2025, for the governorships of New Jersey and Virginia, the Democratic Party is nominating candidates drawn directly from the military-intelligence apparatus—what the WSWS has characterized as the “CIA Democrats.”

“Hey Americans! Look at how right-wing we are! We’re folksy conservatives too! Now vote for us (or keep voting for the republicans you know and love. No pressure!)”

Left-wing entryism into the GOP when? Hogs in New York run as dems, after all.

Honestly, I could see that working in a rural red district that’s more light rust belt than redneck cosplayer kulaks. A combination of God, guns, and NASCAR, but matched with that old school coal miner union economics, would go over quite well in a lot of parts of flyover country.

      • I lived in one of those places and could absolutely see it happening, but the state party apparatus seemed to have it locked up. like those minor state house seats felt like the triple A / feeder leagues for the “majors” of state cabinet/offices. and, the context was that many such places were reliably democrat voting 30 years ago, until Clinton signed NAFTA and gutted welfare. it was the Republicans who saw the opportunity for an easy pickup, so it seems they’re less complacent about rural America as a contested space.

not saying someone couldn’t pull it off, but it seems like a long game for an astute, committed player who can give off the cuff, folksy answers while elegantly eliding Q freaks asking about space lasers and vaccines at the local town meetings they frequent.

The title is kind of confusing. The WSWS (trotskyist newspaper) has declared Mikie Sherrill to be a CIA asset because she was in the US Navy. She’s not openly CIA like Elissa Slotkin.

If she is running as military connected, and supported by corrupt business interests, and has a vested interest in USA military, it’s close enough
