Putin went to war not to gain territory but to crush Ukrainian independence and bring it back into the Russian sphere of influence. But Ukraine, like Finland after Stalin’s attempted invasion of 1939-40, remains an independent and viable state. The loss of 20 per cent of its territory is painful but not fatal.

      to crush Ukrainian independence

the opposite of the truth, USA did the 2014 coup to replace the guy who wanted to stay independent. the problem was NATO vassalage not independence (and you can even see this laid out plainly in Russian diplomacy in late 2021 but it doesn’t matter because you don’t own a newspaper)

      attempted invasion

I wonder why western writers never mention how the war turned out and just focus on glorifying extremely dubious epic Finnish war hero stats. Sure is a mystery.

Did they also comment on Stalin’s attempted invasion of Germany?
