I truly believe there is no day-to-day task more fulfilling than cooking a thoughtful meal for the people you care about. Capitalism has robbed us of that joy. I think about that a lot.

I think about that a lot.

I uprooted my whole life, went to a university across the world, and spent years (incl. lockdown) studying food and gastronomy to become a food scholar; I think about this stuff professionally. And you’ve nailed it lol. Imo there’s no greater good than the hospitality and care shown by a meal prepared with love. Sure, there’s a ton of stuff to pick at and analyze there, but at the end of the day there is no more universal love to human experience than the love for food.

  • I used to work with this guy, who was easily the dumbest guy I have ever known. at least 5 things about him that would make him a record breaking stupid on their own individual merit.

anyway, one of his moves was he would buy those packs of mini cans of Vienna sausages and boxes of saltines. at lunch he would sit in a shed, eat a can of sausages and eat a sleeve of crackers. this meal would be bookended by two cigs.

he did this in “protest” of the employer, which provided free lunch at the cafeteria for all employees. what was he protesting? Monday’s were meatless and sometimes the meals provided had a vegetable involved. I can’t stress enough that the food provided was not fancy or sophisticated. just practical, routine Americana that even kids would eat without a fuss.

this man was in his mid 50s, but looked like he was in his 70s. because he ate shit like canned meat and salted crackers at every meal.

I have no doubt the guy would think Tate is a manly genius for saying this.
