So I realized besides Red Sails and Counterpunch there isn’t a whole lot of leftist blogs/news sites I go to (aside from Hexbear/.ml and grad of course). What are some good sites I can add to my bookmarks list?

I’m sorry about necroposting but it occurred to me the other day that I was completely forgetting about RevLeft Radio, which I think is very good and does a combination of recent news and looking at older historical movements and figures.

There’s also Geopolitical Economy Report, which is basically just China news and related international affairs from a SWCC perspective (which I view as revisionist, but he’s still got interesting things to say).

Oh yeah, I love Brett, Alison and Rev Left. Also Red Menace is a good one as well as Guerilla Radio.

Never heard of it, I’ll have to check it out. What is SWCC and, also, why do you view GER as revisionist?

Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, which is the title that has been assumed by the various ideologies of post-Mao China. The host, I think his name is Ben Norton, is basically working on being the biggest revisionist propagandist for China in the anglophone world, going there to study “Marxism” and so on while putting out episode after episode where basically the only purpose is gassing China up. He also puts out decently-produced videos, if you’re into that.

I think China is historically progressive (by which I mean I think it currently has a positive effect on the world), but I think Norton’s view is ridiculous. He nonetheless does know a lot and, when he is speaking negatively (of the west) rather than positively (of China), he can be pretty incisive. The disclaimer I gave was just my own compulsiveness, honestly.

I have: Breakthrough news, CGTN, Drop Site news Freedom news (anarchist but sometimes interesting niche ultra-local news) Liberation news Mondoweiss (for more Palestine specific news), Monthly Review People’s Dispatch Tricontinental Michael Roberts’ blog (marxist economist/econ posts)

on my RSS feed. a lot of these will overlap specially the news ones but the ones like Tricontinental or Monthly Review are more analysis and papers

these are all great! I would add Ben Norton’s Geopolitical Economy Report channel. Democracy Now has some good day to day coverage, although they aren’t very explicitly Marxist or even socialist.

DN is great for USA news but you can’t trust anything they say for international stuff (with the singular exception of Palestine). They very much tow the state department line for “bad countries”

Came here to say this. Democracy Now gets so much right but then veers off hard into liberal boomer territory when it comes to most foreign policy and AES, and sometimes just seemingly at random. (Like my 70 year old progressive neighbors with a pride flag hanging next to a Ukraine flag on their front porch). They can actually be ok at times even for some AES stuff like support for Cuba but just generally can’t be trusted unfortunately.

Like most, I used to watch DN! regularly when I started my Leftist journey, they are great when it comes to the Americas, but once they start reporting across the ocean, they turn into State Department mouth pieces. This was most obvious during the Libya situation leading up to the NATO bombing and assassination of Qaddafi. They had on as their regular guest, Juan Cole cheer leading for the “Moderate” rebels. He was orgasmic when Qaddafi was killed. DN! did the same playbook for Syria. Amy Goodman never met a Colour Revolution she didn’t fall in love with, always bringing on Liberal guests to make their case for regime change. Turned off DN! forever.

Breakthrough News is my goto watch, it’s basically a PSL outlet. FreedomNews, I tried it a few times, till they reported on the Uighur situation, and in their article they used a Radio Free Asia source without blinking an eye.

Not Marxist. If you guys want I can give you a list of like every alt media outlet and you’ll see how small a world it really is, and how close to anticommunist bastards like Chris Hedges.

I read them too but it’s Propublica/Truthout type reporting but antizionist. Like Mondoweiss. Antizionist in a way slightly less offensive than, say, 972 mag telling us Al-Aqsa was all part of Israel’s master plan, but strictly unrevolutionary consciousness-raising exercises for the great cause of Western nonviolence (groovy)

They state the obvious. “America is hypocritical”, “the NYT headlines are insultingly stupid” and they state it every day. How many times are we going to be satisfied with this introductory material
