Oh shit I thought ublock didn’t work on mobile, I tried getting it like a year ago and it didn’t have a mobile option.

    Easiest: NewPipe.

More advanced: use https://revanced.app/ to patch an apk of YouTube at whatever version Revanced says is the latest. Expect to have to update manually by redoing the process with a newer APK maybe once or twice a year

I’ve been using Vanced and Revanced for years. Once the initial install is done, it’s the best solution. It’s just YouTube without ads.

It’s actually even better because you get some premium features like being able to play audio only in the background or when the phone is locked.

And it automatically skips the in-video promotion segments. I was starting to hate trying to watch videos because of how bad the ads were getting but revanced made it so I could finally enjoy YouTube again.

That’s from the integrated Sponder Block addon, which you can also get on desktop browsers as well.

I use Newpipe, it works fine and you get the premium features like being able to turn your phone screen off which is great for listening to stuff when I’m going to sleep but don’t want to burn up the battery. Sometimes you have to download a new version if stuff isn’t playing or wait a couple days for the update and the I just use uBlock from a browser.

I used to use Newpipe but it hasn’t been working lately, presumably due to some villainy from YouTube, so now I just torrent music and play it from local storage.

I think there might be some interaction between Newpipe and my VPN. Newpipe off VPN works, not signed in YouTube in Firefox on VPN works (unless the video is age restricted) but Newpipe on VPN doesn’t work.

100%. It doesn’t work with the VPN service I use. Works fine when I shut it off. I mainly use the VPN to browse Hexbear at work so this is an acceptable trade-off for me.

Oh and by Firefox I mean Ironfox which is the good Mull fork, as far as I know. Make sure to set reminders to check on all these projects, I have a habit of forgetting about them until they go defunct.

In Ffox, Decentraleyes, JShelter, and Ublock Origin. DNS filtering with Rethink which can connect multiple different apps to their own VPNs. Cromite by itself for when the website hates Firefox and wants to kill you. Brave for when you need to hand yourself in to the datacenter for 5 seconds to actually pay for something (proof its privacy features are meaningless btw). Pipepipe, Spotube, other frontend apps if you need. Aurora Store and Fdroid.

By leaning to the side and holding a middle finger up to the camera so the advertisers watching know I am displeased with them.
