I am European and I want to change phone but I want to avoid OSes maintained by American. Do you have any suggestion ? I am on graphene now, I know about postmarket os but it look like it’s core maintainer are from US.

    Depending on your morals here you could look into various android CFW. It does still rely on google’s updates to android somewhat but isn’t really managed by them. It’s very possible to completely block google play services and use an alternative appstore.

    You can import kei phones from japan if Japanese management is acceptable. I don’t know all the details but they seem to work ok here.

    I probably don’t need to tell you but to anyone else in this thread: do NOT get some og blackberry and try to start using it. The OS is pretty insecure at this point, you’re better off getting a dumb phone (also I tried it in 2020 and the android app integration is kinda awful).
