The House Republican reconciliation bill will now ban both surgeries and HRT prescription under Medicaid for all Americans. Earlier, I posted that it wouldn’t affect HRT. This is incorrect. I was mistaken, because the bill refers to medications for trans people… as “procedures.”

Other provisions in the bill also ban GAC as an Essential Health Benefit under the ACA starting in 2027, which will lead to the loss of GAC coverage for ACA exchange plans (and likely a lot of employer-based plans) in states that don’t have a specific GAC coverage mandate.

    I feel like this is the step right before they ban it nationally just in general. Be sure to stockpile your hormones. Also, now is the time to get connected to your local trans community. If it doesn’t exist already, start a groupchat with all the local trans people you know and have everyone add all the trans people they know. We’re going to have to start sharing our stockpiles and other ways to take care of each other.
