For those in power, I’d imagine having some minority to target is generally just a way to deflect. The reason those without power buy into it is probably mostly misogyny. Basically comes down to men who feel like being a (often specifically white) man needs to be special or else they have nothing because they are losers and they know it. Trans people directly challenge the notion, especially trans fems by willingly transitioning away from being a man.
