The racism against the romani is so bad, some people do not know who the fuck you are talking about unless you use the slur. And to them the word isn’t even a slur, it’s just “who they are”.
Literally this. I can’t have a coherent discussion about Romanis with my relatives without it devolving to a racist cliches lightning round.
Can confirm, I didn’t evne think they were a people i thought they were some mythological race or something. TBF though i grow up in america where romani arent’ really a thing.
There are Romani in the US, and they are incarcerated and beaten by police at the same rate as natives and black people
I didn’t mean there aren’t any in the us. I more meant atleast hwere i grew up the midwest there isn’t enough to the point most people will have never interacted with a romani.

Yeah when I was young I thought it just meant a particular flavor of traveling performer, maybe with some fortune telling thrown in for good measure. More like an old timey version of a carnie than an ethnic group.
