    The EU made this move following a July report by Reuters, which revealed that Russia had secretly obtained Chinese engines for drones.

    How the fuck are you depending on Reuters or any news outlet for this shit? Like don’t they have “intelligence” about this stuff?

      You have to go to the very end of the source of the source for this article (two layers deep) to find this:

      Describing them as cooling units allowed the goods to be exported to Russia without alerting Chinese authorities, the three security officials said.

      AKA even their sources aren’t totally selling the story like this.

      News articles are just whatever an intelligence agency says anyways, so they’re just saying this instead of “because our [CIA owners’] intelligence says so.”

      I don’t think this is the correct interpretation. This sentence is not an assertion that the EU didn’t know its only establishing a sequence of events. Very often politicians will react to news reports, you know, to save face etc… They just don’t want to appear to let this slide now that the public knows.
