Not my nails, obvs.

Some (beginner-focused) tips for painting your nails:

Lighter colors and solid colors are easier to work with. Pick a good color or few, you don’t need to start too fancy.

Don’t shake nail polish, that can mess it up. Roll it slowly if you ever need to mix.

Don’t just do the coloration and call it a day, put clear nail polish on first, and put it over the color. That will protect your nails.

Consider getting nail polish remover when you get your nail polish, mistakes are easy.

Put your nails down on a flat surface, clean your nails (maybe with that nail polish remover?), and apply the clear base coat (doesn’t need to be perfect). Stroke from the base of the nail to the top, until the nail is covered. It might get on your skin, that’s normal, anything on your skin can be dealt with at the end. Let it dry, like you would any other kind of base coat.

Now that it’s dry, do like what you did with your clear polish for colors. Base to tip, going from the center outwards. If you can still see through after it’s covered, wait for it to dry a little, then do another layer.

Then apply your top coat to make smooth, shiny, and somewhat protected painted nails. Wait for it all to dry (very important), which could as long as normal working hours + commute. Don’t mess it up. If you do, you might have to restart on some nails.

Now that it’s dry the polish on your skin should act sorta like glue, where you can just peel it off, but if it’s stubborn you could use a cotton swab with nail polish remover to carefully remove it (don’t let it touch your nails!).

Now you should have nice smooth nails.

Is it fair to say that trans people are probably a manifestation of something that everyone probably feels? I still haven’t been able to wrap my mind around how many cis people there supposedly are. I mean we all know that gender as a concept was just kind of forced on all of us. What if everyone is some degree of dissatisfied with that, but trans people are just more in touch with those feelings? I don’t want to invalidate the cis, but it is kind of a thing where I just can’t accept that transness is anything but just the natural response to being born into a world with something as arbitrary as gender.

Most cis people just haven’t thought of it. Youve thought of it because youre gender was incongruous with the role assigned by hegemonic society, some cis women think about it even a little because they get a shit end of the stick in the great gender binary

Cis+ people exist, they’ve like confronted and thought about gender and decided “yup Im actually quite happy to be my assigned gender” - and those people I always applaud cause they’ve at least done a little introspection.

But that everyone feels in some way dissatisfied with everyday life is likely true, its just that we have this shortcut to one part of that overlapping multi headed hydra of capitalism and oppression. Modern life is intensely alienating, even the rich must hollow themselves out of their own humanity (cant remember the Marx quote but you’ve probably read it). That feeling of separation, the Lacan style Real, is the trauma at the center of everyone’s lives - and for me, and maybe some other trans people, I had a name for a good chunk of it called “gender dysphoria” but not all of it for sure.

I mean, at least the way I experience it, no.

What if everyone is some degree of dissatisfied with that

Cis people are dissatisfied with specific, shitty, patriarchal standards. Women don’t like men talking over them, men wish they could show more emotion, etc. But they still like being men or women. They don’t dislike their gender- just specific shitty things people do. Cis women don’t hate that men look at them as women, they hate that men are misogynists. This is pretty much all the “dissatisfaction” I can remember cis people having with their gender. Or wishing sexually dimorphic traits were even more dimorphic- men wanting to be taller, women wanting bigger boobs, that kind of thing.

This makes a lot of sense. Thank you. I guess I get that’s what the cis experience is like, I just still don’t understand why it’s so common

It seems like most cis people haven’t thought about it that much, but to the extent that they have, they do not particularly mind the gender they were assigned or the sex characteristics that their bodies naturally develop.

It just surprises me that most people are completely okay with it. I guess I’m probably projecting my experience on everyone else, but I “didn’t mind” the gender I was assigned for 23 years until I discovered what gender euphoria felt like.

discovered what gender euphoria felt like.

I think cis people feel this a bit, to a much lesser extent. Cis women love getting their nails done, or going to the spa, or things like that for example.
