Yeah, I am roughly the same age, and had a classmate get into a relationship with a ~30 year old guy at age 16 in the rural midwest. It was not accepted, and she had to hide it from her family and friends. It was found out after the fact and that guy got his ass beat by adult family members and a restraining order filed. It absolutely didn’t just start being thought unacceptable in the 90s/2000s.
