“not seeing race” is still racism because anything less than active anti-racism is still fucking racism. Colorblind racism enables systemic racism to continue.

Imagine saying “I don’t see height, everyone is the same” in a world where everything is already built for tall people. This just means all the short people are fucked forever and you’re going to ignore the problem.

I know y’all know all this already. I hate this shit more than overt racism. I think it’s actually more harmful because at least the open bigots are easy to ostracize, shame, etc.

This kind of racism, colorblind shit and liberal “equality”, are what actually drives systemic racism, not the white nationalist living in an RV 50 miles outside of town. These milquetoast positions are what allows the horrendous policies from the far right to slide right by.

For people who claim to be all about “telling it like it is”, they sure all consider offending them to be the ultimate sin.

Look at how they nominally gas up Daryl Davis as the only viable way to defeat them. Minority groups lie there and kiss the feet of their oppressors; be quiet and ignorable and maybe their oppressors will stop because they never felt threatened.

I swear every moderate wants to be the next Daryl Davis and are surprised when reactionaries don’t see them as “one of the good ones” and start questioning the strawman in their heads.

Also makes it easier to recruit proles when everything is clearly delineated for even the most sycophantic to see.

Yeah sure lady, it’s only why Reagan cooked up the myth of the black welfare queen and used one of his generals to sell crack to the black inner-cities, the very same crack your ass must be smoking to think up a take like this.

I think the argument is that racism ended in the 60s and that as early as the 70s people no longer were racist, thus these silly heads in the new 20s crying racism are lying. I’ve seen in my local government footage of representatives making this claim.

  • as a white, I lie to myself pretty regularly. though I try to keep the circle tight. so it’s lies like “no one is going to notice the amount of cat hair on this shirt” or “this is a reasonable amount of m&ms to consume today.”

It’s such a tired, disingenuous thing to say that being oblivious to racism as a young white child means it didn’t exist and therefore the wokes are the source of all racial conflict. People have been saying this shit for decades and it’s just never made any sense.

My coworker was saying the other day “America was never at the point where someone would kill their own neighbor”

After I mentioned literal slavery, jim crow, anti italian hate, anti irish hate, anti muslim hate, he tried to change the goal posts by saying he “achyually” meant the hate between political parties.

      Libs are not ok

am*rica is famous for people killing their neighbors, schoolmates, families etc.
if i was asked “which country is it most likely that neighbors would kill each other?” i would say the usa without any hesitation and it’s not even close

Yeah it lead to a heated argument and I realized there’s no point in getting through to him. Liberalism is a disease of the comfortable.

Well, there’s probably some argument for a place like former Yugoslavia or Israel, and obviously Ukraine

Tell that to Reverend James Reeb, a white protestor of segregation who was beaten to death in Selma. But really, they are making an extremely shady argument because the biggest protestors of various socially reactionary policies are uniformly going to be people targeted by those policies, so MLK or Harvey Milk or someone “don’t count” as assassinations based on political views because they were themselves minorities and it is “merely” a hate crime.
