Why does anyone give a fuck about these people?

The fact they were both cheating only matters to them and their families. There’s no illegality. Happens millions of time a day.

Just to add to that, a lot of the confusion comes from Microsoft and Apple wanting to lock applications to their platforms.

It’s an odd issue for me. I’m not against it, but the number of politically aware 16yos I’ve met would be close to zero. That said, I don’t think it really gets better by 18, so I have no good argument either way.

It just doesn’t strike me as anything but an attempt to gerrymander along demographic lines and so I view it with cynicism.

To me this is tinkering with the edges of a broken system. How about some proper voting reform?

I tried it a couple of times and stopped both times because it puts it own password dialogue box up for my password. I assume it wants to sudo for some reason.

No! I will not give you my plaintext password.

1. No other piece of screen sharing software needs this.
2. You’ve not told me what you need it for.
3. Even if valid, no user level software should have my plaintext password. Make a request to the system, it will prompt me.
4. You now expect me to trust the software developers that make such brain-dead security choices with sharing my desktop? Not going to happen.

How did this manifest before? You only need to look at the advertising of the time. Take the 1950s America - McCarthyism and the red scare in full force. Most US marketing relied heavily on how buying American made you a good patriotic citizen, living the American dream… even if the product wasn’t 100% American.

He’s a member of the cabinet and so should know the government position. He can also state if UK forces acted in any part of the operation (e.g. refilling).

The decision may not be his but he should be enacting the effect of the decision. It’s absolutely reasonable to ask him.

• Attack the owners with the objective of breaking the slaves out and escaping unharmed.
• Buy all the slaves and walk out with them safely. Then set them all free immediately.

I’d argue that in a lot of situations the second call is better. It guarantees the safety and the freedom of the enslaved person. The first option sounds heroic but the outcome is far from predicable.

• You may lose the fight, and the situation continues
• Enslaved people may get caught in the crossfire, or more likely made to fight against you. You now have to defeat the people you’re trying to free.
• You’re partially successful, but those that remain are treated even worse as the owner takes their losses out on them.

The one downside is that the slave owner has now been paid and may use that money to buy more slaves. However if you also get Starfleet to setup a blockade of the planet Orion to stop them moving slaves throughout the galaxy you can cut things off at source.

Regardless. What matters is the freedom of the individuals. No ex-slave was angry at somebody who paid to set them free. I’m sure they were angry with everyone else in the chain, but that last one… They get a pass.
