TrippyFocus@lemmy.mlto news@hexbear.net•Reuters: "Exclusive: Fistful of dollars and rice for Vietnam farmers displaced for $1.5 billion Trump golf club"English3·10 days agoYou’re right I do remember the deals and BRICS partner news now.
Pivoting will take time so makes sense the leadership is trying to minimize the tariff damage in the meantime.
I don’t have a great frame of reference for the reparations amounts to the farmers though, would you consider those fair?
TrippyFocus@lemmy.mlto news@hexbear.net•Reuters: "Exclusive: Fistful of dollars and rice for Vietnam farmers displaced for $1.5 billion Trump golf club"English13·12 days agoYeah that’s my thought too, I know I’ve seen it mentioned a few times that they’re like China in that they focused their economy on exports in order to look good my IMF metrics.
Found this that says as of 2022 the US is their largest trading partner. They’re almost double #2 China so if it’s a short term play to buy time it’s what they have to do but feel like they really need to start shifting focus from doing business with the US.

I’m guessing it’s to try and get a better tariff deal but seems incredibly short sighted given Trump changes those constantly.

Thank you that’s a much better description then I would’ve given since it’s been a bit since I’ve been able to play lol
Is there a country you’d recommend starting in that it’s relatively easy to get a revolution?
Victoria3 is from the same makers of hearts of iron and I think it’s at least technically feasible to get a communist revolution in any country.
I got the game shortly before my spouse and I had kids tho so haven’t been able to play it much but loved it when I was playing.

Unfortunately because there’s been so much propaganda in the imperial core and periphery against anything that goes against capitalism in these people tend to go to the far right since it’s the only “allowed” option other than the status quo.
I think the bright side (if there is any) is that once the left reaches a critical mass of support we’ll see a surge in support as people realize it’s the better alternative. The challenge is getting to the level.

Look at us. Unloved. Hunted. Cannon fodder. We’ll all be dead before the Republic is back, and yet, here we are… Where are you, boy? You’re here! You’re not with Luthen, you’re here. You’re right here and you’re ready to fight! We’re the rhydo, kid. We’re the fuel. We’re the thing that explodes when there’s too much friction in the air.

We get along well so maybe I’m an outlier haha.
My experience came when I was having a lot of sleep issues and seeing shadow people pretty much nightly and having a lot of very odd “dreams” so maybe that affected the vibes.
Had a super fucked up encounter with him when I was going through some stuff but never saw him again after that.
Glad he’s seemingly just chill for you tho!
TrippyFocus@lemmy.mlto news@hexbear.net•US burns $800M in THAAD missiles to shield Israel in 11 daysEnglish56·2 months agoFeel like this is way more important than the spend.
U.S. depletes 15-20% of THAAD defending Israel from Iran.
Some back of the napkin math based on the article:
$800M at ~$15M each is ~53 interceptors. If that’s 15% of the global stockpile that means the total was around 353 and they’re down to about 300 and the article mentions Lockheed Martin can only produce 50-60/year.
It took Iran only a week to use up a years worth of interceptors. Not to mention the cost difference between the interceptors and the missiles fired at it.
This is not going to be an effective defense against any sort of prolonged engagement with a country like China or Russia.
I don’t disagree but find it funny that the same people that will say this about China having a graphite bomb would not apply the same logic to something like sanctions or the deaths that capitalism causes by keeping the working class poor.
