I was thinking of having that happen earlier in Luthor’s life around the late 30s or so as a kid but feels a resentment that he couldn’t have prevented, escaped or survived the fall somehow himself without the aide of some alien interloper festers into something he feels reflects on all of humanity gradually culminating in an attitude that if we overcome Superman we become even more super than superman as a species for having done so, going from a kinda Randian raised kid to a guy who wants to attack and dethrone what he perceives to be God, when superman isn’t and had never tried to act like that. Superman dying in the end and his wasting his life on trying to defeat something that isn’t what he thought it was and getting in the way of something genuinely beneficial that we could have had around forever and took part in killing it instead of just talking and co-operating which would have achieved all his goals he had set out to prove humankind could beat superman. He could have just instead accepted superman as a human. I was kinda thinking they never meet aside from the beginning and ending and having a dying superman swoop in and save Luthor from some kinda fall would be a fantastic mirroring thing. Cause I wanna get a version of that final talk between luthor and superman from All Star Superman where he tells Luthor essentially ‘you said earth would be better off without me. I’m going, and you spent all this time trying to kill me instead of just proving me wrong. So prove me wrong.’ I had a first swoop but that second swoop like 6 hours and movie and a half later…that’s like poetry, it rhymes. That’s going into the notes. Treatments are fun and easy, screenplays are really not fun to write.
