Passport bros are almost always some unattractive dweeb who thinks moving to the global south will make them desirable. And yes they are indeed usually unattractive. Come live in a country where a lot of them are and you’ll notice it. They also tend to hang around high schoolers and women barely over 18 who will be the most likely to fall for their bullshit.

My sister met one the other day who approached her when she was out with friends and went on for five minutes about how much he loved “Latinas.” She said he smelled really bad and then her friends laughed. Guy was probably traumatized from that experience lol

Just based on the picture I was thinking "wow, we’re really doing this now? Just make fun of a guy because he looks like a schmuck? Then I actually read the story he wrote.

I think this might be the most “and everyone clapped” story I’ve ever read on reddit. This reads like he was trying to write an Isekai about himself, where he, The American, travels to the strange fantasy land of “Japan” and all the women want him, the men want to be him, the whole society worships the ground walks on. Looks like that whole subreddit is just sexpests and sexpats (but I repeat myself). Obviously this sort of Orientalism and Misogyny is 100% fine and ok with reddit, but a leftist subreddit? That’s dangerous, that could get people thinking the wrong things.

If only this story ended like an isekai begins 🚚

Nah I was a dependent. My dad was in the Air Force so I had an id card. I used to take girls to the local American military base for dates since it was a unique thing that they wouldn’t get from other guys.

    This explains a lot lmao

You know how we split the dunk tank into gossip and counterpropaganda slop? What if we split off some of slop’s content into a new comm called sludge?

Yeah but if you block the com like half the site dissapears. Sometimes there is funny shit in here, but finding obscure guys to dunk on / get mad at just kinda sucks imo. I know this battle has already been lost and it’s a key part of the site culture, but it always just feels like the smug online version of a fox news grandpa turning on the TV every night to yell at the blue hairs

Half the site should not be posted into the slop comm. People are posting things into the comm which don’t belong in this comm. Report posts in the slop comm which aren’t slop. The sidebar says that this comm is for “anonymous reactionary bullshit”. If it’s a public figure such as a celebrity or politician then it’s not slop. Slop is when a non-famous person says or does something which is ignorant, problematic, or bigoted.

https://hexbear.net/comment/5630534 This is what CARCOSA said when the comms were launched

Where am I supposed to post…?

Slop is for what the old dredge_tank was like. Roast anonymous reactionaries to your heart’s content!

Gossip for an informal discussion regarding people with power / notable / tools of power

Counterprop for a formalized discussion regarding reactionary people no matter how powerful/notable.

My interpretation is that slop is for bad things said or done by nonfamous people, gossip is for bad things said by a famous person such as a celebrity or politician. If a government enacts a reactionary policy or law, I put that in news. When a government does anything, it’s news comm, because it’s material action that impacts people’s lives. If a politician does something reactionary, it could be news or could be gossip or even politics comm, depending on the material impact of the action or thing said.

My philosophy is that the comm should be chosen by the amount of material impact behind the subject. It annoys me a lot when an impactful news story gets posted in the slop comm.

What makes this difficult is a few things in my experience.

                1. Comms are silos with no real intersectionality. Cross posting doesn’t really do the trick because it creates a whole new post with a new score.
                2. Lemmy lacks a tagging system to allow for posts to be delineated within a comm.
                3. 1 + 2 incentivizes more comms to offer delineation, at the expense of subscriber fatigue. Too many comms to brows and pick from, leading to low traction in most comms outside of large broad stroke comms like News.
                4. You cannot move a post from one comm to another.

Ideally, you would create as few comms as needed covering the broadest strokes possible, and delineate them with tags, creating a hierarchy of comms and tags.

News could embody all types of content, for example.

                News > Sports
                News > Politics
                News > USA > Politics

                Writing > Fake News
                Writing > World Building

                Gaming > Table Top
                Gaming > Video Game

                Theory > Marxism
                Theory > Anarchism

                Praxis > Unions
                Praxis > Mutual Aid
                Praxis > Direct Action

                General > Slop
                General > Gossip

Posts should be allowed to have any number of tags, and honestly, I don’t see why there should be much difference between a tag and a comm… There should be tags that are site wide, like NSFW, which would be a tag that is configured to blur its contents, or marked as a “content warning” tag.

Honestly I would love this. Replace comms with tags (which side note: should work with mastodon tags), posts can be in as many tags as possible, and those tags should be editable after posting, including my moderators.

I think the main issue would be that currently moderators are per-comnunity, and having moderators per-tag just feels weird.

Additionally, the blurring of content could be done like bluesky labelers, where you can specify that certain tags should make content fully hidden, blurred, or fully visible.

Junior year of high school I had the opportunity to go to Japan as an exchange student, and I leapt at the opportunity. This was in 2012 and 2013, I spent about a year in Japan all told. This year completely changed my life, I lost 80 pounds, I gained a lot of confidence, I gained social skills, and I completely reset my personality. I went from being a nerdy guy who everybody ignored to suddenly being the most popular guy in school. Every day at school I used to have lunch with 4 girls who would all compete for my attention. All of a sudden I had girls asking ME out. Japanese girls know how to make the first move, and this really helped me.

I dated a lot of my fellow students, and I even dated some older women, a 22 year old, a 23 year old, a 25 year old, and a 28 year old. Those women in particular really helped me understand how to behave as a man and how to treat women. I’ll never forget my farewell address where on the last day of school in the gymnasium I gave a speech in Japanese about all I had learned during the previous year. The school band played “Hail to the Chief” as I walked up to the podium, and when I finished my speech the whole gymnasium erupted in thunderous applause.

This is the most insane story, assuming this guy is telling the truth, he dated a 28 year old as a fking highschooler?
