2 out of the 3 smart plugs I’ve bought in the last couple of years have shit themselves for whatever reason. One just doesnt turn off, the other bricked itself after moving house (???)
If anyone here has used any smart plugs that havent died within a couple of years I’d love to know. I’m only using them for lamps that are a prick to reach. Bonus points for any that dont require bullshit apps to set them up
PS: UK But I guess I can find similar models if you got em
The only fundamental difference between wifi and the other protocols is they support lower bandwidths like 1 MHz instead of wifi’s 20 MHz and have some related low-power radio stuff. Wi-Fi does have a low bandwidth version in Wi-Fi HaLow but it doesn’t seem like it’s getting adoption yet.
IoT devices just need to be developed to be more secure. There’s not really a way around that. And home routers should have an easy way to block their internet or something. No need for entirely separate hardware and protocols.
