I’ve got a few deadlines creeping up, so I thought I’d do some work over the weekend - and I’m happier for it.

I forgot what it’s like to work on the weekend, just doing stuff at your own pace, no stress, no new messages derailing you to prioritize something, just taking the time to do the task properly.

And once you’re done you can just enjoy the rest of the weekend, guilt-free.

I used to do this a lot in my last job where my hours weren’t micromanaged, but stopped in my current job where they’re really tight on hours and forgot that I liked going to work on the weekend.

    Whipped, I know

I wouldn’t mind getting things done on my weekends since I’m paid based on my billable time, but my kid needs me too much for it to be a regular occurrence. Different kind of whipped, really.

I have the feeling you’re more efficient with your time though. I remember back when I was with my ex, I was super focused at work because I knew I wouldn’t have time later.

Now? I stretch out all my tasks across the whole waking period

Maybe? My productivity is highly elastic. Yesterday I got 8 hours’ worth done in 3, and today I spent 8 hours getting 3 done, but today I laid down a brutal fusillade of emails that looked like I was busy as fuck.

I’m not efficient by choice. I have to finish fast, because if I don’t I have to work in the nighttime which makes me into, as Carl Panzram put it, “a bit of a grouch”.
