The most troubling thing for me growing up is seeing people I thought were decent enough decide “Is America similar to Nazi Germany? Well then obviously I wasn’t lied to about America and was lied to about Hitler instead.”

Like we all sat through the same classes in middle school and high school where it was emphasized nazis said whatever they thought people wanted to hear while doing the opposite, right?

I’ve come to think that the majority of people are simply weathervanes. It’s not a matter or being “good” or “decent” people, they’re just a product of their class interests and their social environment. It’s possible to defeat that, but on average people do not and will not do so.

Many (I would estimate at least a plurality of but possibly a majority of) Americans and Europeans are, deep down, little Hitlers. This is because the decay of capitalism gives them a choice between Hitler and Lenin, and Hitler benefits them by allowing them to continue to pilfer the third world.
