Someone once said iirc basically he is what happens when you dunk on the most wilfully ignorant people online and slowly start to think that it makes you a genius. I think that more or less describes him up to and including his ableism and transphobia. I suspect that he thinks he’s just being “provocative”, and yeah, being an outspoken bigot tends to provoke people… Asshole.

      Many such cases! a-little-trolling

It’s funny because BE also has many unprincipled and ignorant geopolitical takes. Wasn’t he an Uyghur Genocide guy? So he can’t even claim to be the genius geopolitics understander.

He also does the whole “I’m not like other streamers, I’m a well-adjusted person who doesn’t cultivate parasocial relationships and isn’t addicted to drama” thing while spending 19 hours a day on social media obsessively posting about random streamer nobodies and getting banned from twitter 35 times a month

Iirc his position is that the claim of an actual genocide is obviously incorrect but that china is committing “cultural genocide”. Never mind that this take is self defeating because an actual “cultural genocide” would just be a genocide. Evidence included “they require Uyghur children to receive their schooling in Mandarin”, which is not to my knowledge true. I could be wrong but my understanding is that members of registered ethnic minorities actually have an explicit right to receive schooling in their own language, but they also must be taught Mandarin… Which seems reasonable to me.

There are countless dialects and languages spoken by ethnic minorities in China, all of whom have to learn mandarin in school, for the purposes of being able to communicate. It’s just the same in literally almost every other country, there is mandatory instruction in the official national language. The difference between China and most countries is that they also provide classes in the local dialect/language.

Liberals don’t actually care about “cultural genocide” though, they celebrate it when it’s done against Russian minorities in Eastern Europe. NYT writers cream their pants in ecstasy every time they hear about how Ukraine is “cleansing” their land of Russian cultural influence. Just last week, there was an NYT piece about the necessity of purging Russian language and culture from Ukraine to curb separatism. Liberals love “cultural genocide” when they and their favorite nazi buddies do it. It’s only a bad thing to them when it can be used as a bad faith cudgel.

Just a complete reversal of cause and effect by “journalists”, lmao. not-a-journalist

That was my understanding and what I was getting at, yeah. If you have a source I would love it because I have heard this more than once, and went looking for something to back it up but haven’t had much luck either way.

My source is friends that grew up in China in the 90s… it’s a school dependent thing. Some will offer classes for heritage speakers, but it’s never required because that puts students from other regions at a disadvantage if they have to learn a new dialect.
