“The Underground” 1995. While working on this video-essay I have thought how many people do actually know about this absolute masterpiece? And that is hard to say that Kusturica’s name is barely known among the experienced movie-goers; he won few Palm D’or, frequently visits Cannes and more or less universally recognized director. Nevertheless, his actual best work still remains quite unknown. And undeservingly so, because the very subjects it depicts are so immensely important in nowadays society that it almost absurd. In order to put an end to unjustified ignorance towards this movie I’ve decided to make my own review on it. Let new cinephiles to hear Kusturica’s name once more and find out about this undeniable gem of Serbian cinema.
I found this on my library’s site, Kanopy, but it may not be accessible from other libraries. If you have an account, here’s the link: https://www.kanopy.com/product/underground-4
