Someone never played Silent Hill 1.

    Or Silent Hill 2.

    Or Silent Hill 3.

    Or…

(I know, they are right wing grifters. But c’mon, Alessa, Heather, Mary or Angela… It boils my blood).

A story about a guy who is sad because dead wife is NOT WOKE, neither is one about a dad who wants to save his kid, okay??? maddened

Heather doesn’t count because SH3 came out before games had politics which only began happening some time around 2014 or alternatively, before these people were born

(not having played the game myself) I would argue that characters that only exist to give depth to the protagonist aren’t strong arguments for woke, though my understanding was that Silent Hill was nearly explicitly about misogyny

I think that’s kind of flattening the plot of Silent Hill 2, since the whole game is about their relationship. If there is a second character (because it is a little solipsistic), it’s the dead wife and not any of the living NPCs encountered along the way, and if there’s a third character, it’s the woman who is a representation of his fucked-up conception of his wife, i.e. the third character is also still just the first two characters.

It’s depressing that third-rate videogame misogynists can easily reach an audience of thousands in just two or three days. YouTube needs to be permanently switched off.

  • *insert ‘woke’ game here* has STOOPED TO A NEW LOW

I have only heard about and seen silent hill f and read it’s plot in Wikipedia, and like… what? Forced marriages being depicted as distressing to the protagonist is… bad? I don’t want to watch the video to find out or anything, but the story’s interesting anyway.

The only reason they could pick up on the quasi-feminist angle is because it’s written by some otaku-pedo type who is definitely not a real feminist and thus could only put in a feminist theme in the most obtuse, ham-fisted way too. Paradoxically, if this was actually feminist you’d have them trying to co-opt it and saying it’s “not feminist and even-handed” or something stupid. I saw one video implying SH3 was sufragette but not feminist via a chad-virgin meme, so IDEK anymore.

Interesting- I haven’t played the game either or looked into the story because I probably want to play it at some point, but I was under the impression people liked the story and themes. Is it like Metroid Other M bad

I would say it’s Other M bad, yeah, but I also don’t totally hate Other M so I guess it’s similar in that sense. A lot of people do seem to like it though. No idea if it’ll turn in the future, we’ll see. I’m trying not to be a negative prick about it, but it’s just that I keep seeing the worst shit ever get popular in the anime-gamer scene and it’s starting to become disconcerting how bad a lot of the stuff is, like Demon Slayer. People are like treating Netflix-don’t-need-to-watch-the-screen slop as masterpieces and it’s gettin’ weird.
