Looking at soviet history, it was funny how much projection was on soviet elites. Sure they had higher luxuries than average workers. It is not easy to make the guy who handle billions of dollars work close to minimum wage. But their life standard difference was nowhere near capitalists. That was the entire reason they wanted ussr destroyed
