The patient had recently returned to Maryland after traveling to El Salvador. The risk to public health in the US is very low.

Pretty fucked up of USA Today to violate HIPAA by outing RFK Jr. as patient zero for Las Plagas. The worms in his skull should be between him and his homeopath.

This is slander, I look nothing like these worms and have powers humanity could only dream of.

The screw worm control program was one of the USAID projects canceled this year. Now, of course they could have been trying to eradicate it completely instead of just keeping it from the US border, but still kinda funny

Isn’t this almost entirely a risk for producers, not the consumers? The article says nothing about how the patient was infected.

Patient was likely infected via traditional route - small cut that a fly laid eggs in.

Hell yeah it is. I’m spitting distance from Mexico. I don’t eat beef, but the fly dont give a fuck what I eat, I’ll do fine in a pinch I reckon.

Ugh theres not even like a medication to take or rub on the spot where they’ve gotten in, it has to be manually removed! Good reason to keep any fresh wounds covered

I mean yeah, but, the fly ain’t vegan so what the human consumes is mostly moot.

I’m sure keeping 8000 cows in a small shed has no implications for parasite vectors

I’m sure jumping to conclusions is actually productive instead of recognizing the path for infection via this parasite.

The infection path to this, were it ever to take hold, is gonna be mostly livestock and it’s associated workers. Now I’m not gonna say this single case means it’s all gone down the shitter but if you would want to prevent this, not keeping a shed of 8000 cows would be a good start
