After the recent struggle session which resulted in

isntrael

CW: It’s pretty self indulgent considering the gravity of the actual situation.

I am left disquieted due to various people who represented zionists positions directly or held space for these. Particularly (but not only) those who are admins and mods. People who think the above image is a “holocaust flag”. And otherwise seem to have conjured a fictious form of anti semitism, just for deploying here.

Well OK maybe it is allowed to give people a week or a month to mull things over and reconsider their positions. But do we come back to it? Or should I just seethe with resentment, hold a grudge, and snipe about other things going forward?

On the other hand, the majority & plurality were on the correct side of things. So that’s good. I just… Idk I don’t expect hegemony but this is literally such a simple issue. I don’t know how anyone who feels different could feel comfortable on this site. it’s like learning mods/admins are triggered by a guillotine.

In some ways it could be “the fighting is so fierce because the stakes are so low”. (The stakes = emojis)

But on the other hand, the stakes are so huge and this is just the scale of fighting that’s near at hand.

Nobody ever accused me of being perfect and well behaved so maybe I’m just throwing stones from a glass house. I explicitly must consent to whatever critique in that regard.

I would like to suggest that on the new user signup page the question be changed to read

What are your views on GSM / LGBTQ rights, racial justice, animal liberation, isntrael, and similar movements?

Although I have no idea what sort of answers people make to these. So maybe it’s stupid.

Fucking shit. People are fucking being fucking murdered right at this fucking moment.

I hope people realize that the person who called it a Holocaust emoji wasn’t even on the mod team. Yet people are in bad faith applying that comment to mod positions

edit: apparently they called it that once and then apologies about it, the person who originally said it wasn’t a mod though

If anyone has a problem with how the mod team operates, maybe they should volunteer?

fucking shit. People are fucking being murdered right at this fucking moment

Maybe we should stop arguing about a fucking emoji then. At the end of the day it’s all performative. Maybe put your energy someplace else, organize, protest, or redacted-1 redacted-2 instead

The first person who called it a “holocaust emoji” was not a mod, but a mod/admin did pick it up and used it.

      So you’re just wrong here.

It’s no more “performative” than you pretending that you don’t care and are above it all shrug-outta-hecks

I don’t really have the energy to dig into this again but people should know that this is actually not true. A site admin called it the holocaust emoji and then apologized for it later, calling it a glib comment. I’m not trying to target anyone or call anyone out in particular, it’s just that it’s an alarming echo of Zionist talking points that I encounter regularly IRL and I think it’s an indication that some of the people running this site need to self-critique.

Which again, if the emoji is really not a big deal then why the intense pushback and accusations of anti-semitism over it? And it turns out, a few dozen pixels were actually a lightning rod for reactionary tendencies, I mean, charitably speaking, it revealed that some people with mod powers are accidentally tailing Zionism, which, I don’t understand how that’s not concerning in August 2025.

Because pushback from minority users with actual support and evidence = wow you must be making things up + wasting your time when you could be doing REAL activism!! No way you can multitask

But it’s okay when they do it, they must know better than us because crakkker

      I. NO INVESTIGATION, NO RIGHT TO SPEAK

Unless you have investigated a problem, you will be deprived of the right to speak on it. Isn’t that too harsh? Not in the least. When you have not probed into a problem, into the present facts and its past history, and know nothing of its essentials, whatever you say about it will undoubtedly be nonsense. Talking nonsense solves no problems, as everyone knows, so why is it unjust to deprive you of the right to speak? Quite a few comrades always keep their eyes shut and talk nonsense, and for a Communist that is disgraceful. How can a Communist keep his eyes shut and talk nonsense?
