I once told my uncle, who is both a chud and a Trekkie, about how the show was actively fought against by segregated states like Alabama. Episodes that prominently featured Uhura would get censored or not shown at all, for instance.

My uncle replied that the show is still right wing, because segregation was left wing since Democrats supported it.

My favorite response to that is to ask which side still flies Confederate flags today and cries when Confederate statues get taken down.

So you are saying Joe Brandon was the most left wing president the US ever had?

The TV shows are all focused on Starfleet who should hypothetically be the most rightwing institution in the Federation. But their primary goals are research and diplomacy, not defense and rarely does anyone in Starfleet ever express a rightwing belief. If they do it’s typically just a militant belief that the fascist empires surronding the Federation shouldn’t be wholly trusted. And the idea that pushing humanity forward is a purely rightwing position is laughable.

in TNG at least it’s not ignored that often and I think it’s still telling that it’s still this thing called The Prime Directive which guides them and each time they don’t follow it it’s a whole Thing and Picard is sent to a tribunal or smth

maybe not? I would think the fact that the dialectic over intervention/interference is so thoroughly explored means it can’t be inherently expansionist but idk I essentially skipped TOS

Silly tankie, Spock quoted the Bible so obviously he believed in it. You would never quote a famous piece of ancient literature unless you believed every word in it was fact!

i don’t even watch star trek and i know this is wrong lol

    expansionism

    space exploration isn’t expansionism

    manifest destiny

they just chat with the alien people and help solve their problems, they don’t like colonize them

    human exceptionalism

isn’t one of them like a super smart alien guy? and another one is a robot or something? and don’t they have plot points sometimes where they fuck something up because of light human/federation chauvinism?

    highest IQ winning out

kirk is the captain and he’s kind of a himbo

    Spock acknowledges jesus christ

like as a historical figure? cos he did pretty certainly exist as a guy

These chuds are really barking up the wrong tree, Star Trek is a total repudiation of everything they believe in, as this clip so aptly demonstrates
