anyone here see all 5 of the original planet of the apes?

i went in knowing nothing about them, i just really like apes and monkeys so it’s always been on my list. i loved them. 5 being my least favorite but the series as a whole is now one of my favorites. i didn’t know there would be themes of class war, slave revolt, animal exploitation, anti-war, none of that. i thought it was just a movie where apes talked and humans were their slaves.

and how do yall feel about the reboot? i’ve only seen the first one, years and years back before i ever watched the originals.

a lot of people seem not to like the later original movies, but i loved them. 4 was incredible. this speech goes so hard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osQqp_8ATS0

  • I seen all the apes movies.

thematically, the original collection mostly took place in a distant future (excluding “Battle for the…”) where ape supremacy was well established and humans were pretty much nonsense. except the psychic bomb worshippers in the forbidden zone

the reboot seems more detailed in its filling of the blanks where the apes are rising to supremacy and holding the first generations of power.

admittedly, it’s been a while since I saw the O.G. ones. I was totally fascinated by them, discovering them in the 90s as a teenager and watching them whenever they were on and I was allow d to control a screen the adults found my interest quaint and frequently overruled it. they had all seen the very first one, but were totally over it and it’s sequels by the time of my discovery. I was pretty much the only sci-fi head in my family, who were more dedicated to the “serious” and “grown up” genres of storytelling like romcoms, melodramas, and institutional procedurals. “Why doesn’t Johnny Football Hero want to marry me in this dress?” “I need 40 CCs of cancer medicine, stat.” “Objection, Your Honor: You’re Under Arrest!” 🙄

I think it was probably the first media I saw that was post-apocalyptic, or at least the first I had really engaged with.
