GameCube is a pretty extreme case. They were practically giving them away once the wii hit big. Going up is insane.
Did this happen with the NES when super NES came out? That’s the only real comparison I can think of with Nintendo having back to back successful consoles.
Nope. Parents were new to the idea of upgrading a console in the first place and they focused most of their non-child advertising in telling parents there is a genuine difference even if they already have a Nintendo Machine. Genesis had also come out 2 years earlier and NES prices dropped to compete in the meantime.
