Awesome! I just gained so much power!It’s not a slur, and it has several origins, but the three most commonly ones are:

Gringo has never offended me. I suspect the people who are offended by the term gringo are people who use slurs often themselves, and also huge fucking pussies.

I think the actual insult evolved from puss like a cat, so common origin for the slang term about genitals, but in common contemporary use it certainly has misogynistic connotations if not outright intent (which it also often does).
The moment someone in latam treats a gringo the same way they treat black, trans or indigenous people, is the moment I’ll accept gringo is a slur. Meanwhile, everyone fawns over the white gringos coming to extract our labor value and drive prices up with their unequal-exchange fueled currency. I’m pretty sure I’m safe using gringo derogatorily for now.
