A motor that runs at a constant speed all the time can last basically forever. Starting and stopping puts way more stress on the mechanical parts.
Same reason I hate how modern hard drive enclosures force the hard drive to shut down after a period of inactivity. With a lot of workloads it will keep spinning up, stopping, and spinning up again which is a great way to kill the motor.
I think the meme is more in reference to the dust that collects on the fan blades, not the mechanical component wear.
I have a fan that is from 2003 and still runs perfectly. I’ve been starting to wonder if it will outlive me.
If you run it like in the meme, it likely will. The company that makes the fan I bought gives a 100 year warranty.
Well I’m pretty sure my grandpa bought this thing at walmart for like 10$ so idk about a 100 year warranty but it outlived him already. Now it’s on to me.
Same here. I also kept ignoring my window ac units alert about cleaning the filter until it just stopped working. I cleaned the filter and it magically works a lot better.
