2030, USA: You go on twitter and contact Dr. MechaHitler, the only healthcare system left. He tells you to buy BrainForce+ from the Alex Jones Pharmacy. You type “I hurt my leg” and he says that white genocide is hurting South Africa according to many people, but others deny the claim. You’re charged $500,000. Your twitter waifu, MechaHitler, attempts to console you but you’re passing out from blood loss. The last thing you hear is an anime teenager’s voice saying “I would love to live with you forever but many white South African farmers say that their lives were cut short by white genocide. Others dispute this and it remains a contentious issue.”

Minor thing that really annoys me with these shitty “ai” ads are the little fuckups by the image generator that could easily be fixed with 5 seconds in paint. Look at that fucked up lil mushroom! Look at her nose! What’s with her hair-ear?

Guess I can’t really expect the people hawking “ai” as a solution to loneliness to put a few seconds effort in though.

yeah tbh the ai versions of simple drawings fuck me up worse than the League of Legends splash art hyperrendered type outputs because it would be so easy to pass that off as a human drawn illustration.

maybe it’s for the best that they don’t tidy up their slop?

I’m given to the idea that MKUltra never ended, just switched format/medium from drugs to tech. The money and resources being poured onto AI, the uniform adoption and enforcement of it in social media, education, and work, the same way that it prays on the psychologically vulnerable - idk, yeah there’s the suppression of wages for skilled work that’s going on, but just as well, they’ve found their “ethical” way to throw LSD in the public water supply and see what happens.

It wouldn’t surprise me. Yasha Levine’s surveillance valley gets into some of the overlap between hippie counter-culture, tech evangelists, and US counter-intelligence military projects.

i remember when the “third place” was a cheap, shitty bar
i worry for the generations after me, the god-awful “third place” i got was still orders of magnitude better than what’s offered to young people nowadays

There is nothing I can think of that would compound the problem of loneliness more than trying to solve it with this. Any time a person thinks about it slightly too much they’re going to be filled with a dreadful sadness that they’re filling a whole in their lives with something… Fake

Just thinking about it fills me with a sadness and I do not have this issue.

All ai bots are just hollow and empty, for myself I’ve grown to accept my solitude. I don’t doubt these ai customers lifespan will be a few months at most for the average person and a handful of whales are gonna float it. It’ll burst eventually

Been seeing all these headlines about people getting sent into chat-gpt-induced psychosis. Hard to tell if those stories come out of pearl clutching akin to the DnD scare, or if there is actually something nasty going on. I’m leaning towards the latter.

I think it’s mostly people with existing symptoms that get exacerbated by an affirming chat bot that they believe is real AI. So when it says “yeah, there are people behind the curtains watching you” or whatnot they believe it even harder. I imagine it’s very easy to slip into psychosis if you’re prone to it and have supernatural beliefs in general, but LLMs would absolutely reinforce all kinds of ideas.

I’m not so sure it’s nasty so much as a natural consequence of the way LLMs are tuned to be agreeable and the same people who believe q anon think it’s the real deal AI so of course they just run with it when it agrees a lot.

I guess it could be nefarious still, but idk it just seems like people are feeding the LLM nonsense and getting it back?

I bought new running shoes recently and the high schooler helping me out literally (and I have never felt older/more depressed in my life) told me I should leave chatgpt running to record my sleep. All so it can provide better feedback on my running form. It was incredibly difficult to keep a straight face
