    even liberals who’ve been to syria and aren’t just going based on what’s printed in the NYT, seem to learn pretty quickly that Assad was the lesser of a great many evils vying for power in Syria. Its literally just the armchairs who have never been there and take western media as gospel

      It was such a messy, long conflict I remember somebody back in the second year commenting the modern fog of war is thick with all the social media propaganda. To the end that we likely won’t know what happened for decades.

      Trying to pick “good guys” and “bad guys” in real time is probably impossible. It’s amazing how quickly those informed by western media claimed to be equipped to make that call.

      Ive talked to Syrians who also hated Assad and were hopeful after he was deposed. It was a complicated situation, and I think you’d only support Assad if you had an anti-Imperialist framework which many people lack
