It literally just said “theres more talk of tankies than there are tankies” and as you can see it wasnt a hot take.

This isn’t very cash money

Believe it or not, many of the users there are pretty open to being pursuaded into better leftist politics. Admins and mods behaving this way pushes the users away, and being federated lets them see better leftist politics. It’s a process, though.

Yeah, I was on db0 before I moved to hexbear. Aside from actually just coming to conclusions that conform to historical materialism in regards to the position of the USSR, one of the reasons was that muh “tankies” weren’t actually that bad to hang around with on Hexbear when I lurked there. Also, it was ironic that Hexbear was the only instance where there was actual voting about issues pertaining to the site, whereas the other “anarchist” instances basically just boiled down to whatever the mods felt like.

I came in the r/chapotraphouse via a Bernie Sanders subreddit. r/CTH was the first community on the left I encountered that was active about banning transphobes, so that was a foot-in-the-door for me to developing into a leftist.

Some people are in communities they aren’t really happy with, so being federated with those places even if they suck can be valuable

Yep, and I know you’re not alone, too. Exposure does help, which is the prime benefit of federation with instances with worse politics (though it does create more mod/admin work). Lenin got it right when it came to how to treat non-socialist orgs in “Left-Wing” Communism.

I do understand defederation to protect marginalized comrades, though, and support that.
