A week ago, the Bolivian left-wing party, the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), currently led by Luis Arce, decisively lost the round of elections against the right-wing. This comes after a prolonged period of “infighting” between Arce, and Morales, who previously led the MAS prior to the 2019 coup which briefly installed Jeanine Anez.
I put infighting in quotes because despite the nominal similarities between Arce and Morales, it is clear that this is not merely a counterproductive battle between two men - instead, the Bolivian left has arrived at a time of unavoidable conflict between two competing strategies. The electoral strategy is represented by Arce, who has aligned himself with a more middle-class-oriented campaign that is more economically liberal, whereas Morales represents a more working-class-oriented campaign that seeks to go further than tepid reform.
Such a conflict between electoralism and revolutionary action is inevitable in any and every developing country that 1) possesses a functioning left-wing party or organization, and 2) is under internal and/or external pressure by capitalists. This crisis must be resolved eventually - and this electoral failure is how such a crisis is manifesting right now. So while the Bolivian left has indeed lost the election, it is not yet defeated. The revolutionary campaign can, if it is willing, still ultimately stand triumphant. But what must be done is a real movement towards socialism, which goes beyond technocrats reforming from above, and instead transforms the state into a full political project of the working class, in which their movements, organizations, and protests are genuinely empowered. Such a project will involve repression by the forces of reaction, not least by the United States, but it is the only road left to take.

Statement of Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza

— The Ministry of Health condemns in the strongest terms the heinous crime committed by the “israeli” occupation by directly targeting Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis this morning, which is the only general hospital operating in the southern Gaza Strip.
The occupation’s targeting of the hospital today and the killing of medical, journalistic, and civil defense crews is a continuation of the systematic destruction of the health system and a continuation of the genocide, and it is a message of defiance to the whole world and to all values of humanity and justice.
The preliminary toll of martyrs reached 20 martyrs from medical staff, patients, journalistic teams, and civil defense personnel, in addition to dozens of injuries, while the shelling caused panic and chaos and disrupted work in the operations department, depriving patients and the injured of their right to treatment.
The Ministry of Health addresses an urgent appeal to protect the remaining health services and calls on the international community and all relevant institutions to take immediate and urgent action to protect humanitarian teams in Gaza.
International silence and the failure to take real measures to curb the occupation and stop its crimes is an active partnership and a license for the continuation of this crime.

When I think about how people qualify China’s treatment of Uyghurs as genocide but not the israeli Holocaust of Palestinians, my brain feels like it is going to break.
Every smug fucking liberal tripped over themselves to condemn China of genocide for years, without any thought or consideration, or awareness of the facts of the situation. They heard a Western leader say it, so it must be true, and if you disagree, you’re a bot and a liar and a paid shill!
But when it’s a supposed “ally” doing the extermination, ethnic cleansing, slaughter, maiming, starving, systematic SA, and worse (things infinitely worse than what China was ever reliably accused of doing), they become the world’s daftest genocide experts. The thresehold for what constitutes genocide is raised high up into the stratosphere, and no amount of evidence of israel’s crimes, their full-throated intention, and ceaseless determination to cleanse Gaza and the West Bank of Palestinians is enough to even merit discussion.
Even more jokerfying, I still see people claim that the ICJ’s report from January 2024 means there is no genocide.
Maybe if the Xinjiang Uyghurs were just thousands of white Europeans tourists cosplaying this is such a weird take. With a nuclear stockpile 6 times bigger than Israel even I’d say this “evil China” could get away with a lot if they wanted to.
